Dr. Alan November is an international leader in education technology. He has helped schools, governments and industry leaders improve the quality of education through technology. His areas of expertise include planning across curriculum, staff development, new school design, community building and leadership development. He has delivered keynotes and workshops in all fifty states, across Canada, and throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and Central America. Alan was named one of the nation’s fifteen most influential thinkers of the decade by Classroom Computer Learning Magazine. His writing includes numerous articles and a best-selling book, Empowering Students with Technology. Alan was co-founder of the Stanford Institute for Educational Leadership Through Technology and is most proud of being selected as one of the original five national Christa McAuliffe Educators.
Dr. Erica Brown is the Director for Adult Education at The Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning and consults for The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. Erica is the author of the book, Inspired Jewish Leadership, a National Jewish Book Award finalist and Spiritual Boredom, and co-author of The Case for Jewish Peoplehood (all through Jewish Lights).She was a Jerusalem Fellow, is a faculty member of the Wexner Foundation, an Avi Chai Fellow, winner of the Ted Farber Professional Excellence Award, and the recipient of the 2009 Covenant Award for her work in education. Erica has served as an adjunct professor at American University and George Washington University. She lectures widely on subjects of Jewish interest and leadership, in addition to extensive writing in journals of education and Jewish studies and writes a weekly internet essay called “Weekly Jewish Wisdom” (www.pjll.org) that also appears on the Newsweek/Washington Post’s “On Faith” website. She resides with her husband and four children in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Dr. Lee S. Shulman is president emeritus of The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, having served for 11 years as its eighth president. Shulman’s research and writings have dealt with the study of teaching and teacher education; the growth of knowledge among those learning to teach; the assessment of teaching; medical education; the psychology of instruction in science, mathematics, and medicine; the logic of educational research; and the quality of teaching in higher education. His work has devoted special attention to the role of pedagogical content knowledge in teaching, the scholarship of teaching and learning in both K-12 and higher education, and on the role of “signature pedagogies” in education in the professions and in doctoral education. Shulman is the Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Education Emeritus and Professor of Psychology Emeritus (by courtesy) at Stanford University. From 1963 to 1982 he served as Professor of Educational Psychology and Medical Education at Michigan State University. It was there he founded and codirected the Institute for Research on Teaching (IRT). Dr. Shulman is a past president of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and received its career award for Distinguished Contributions to Educational Research. He is also a past president of the National Academy of Education.
Jonah Lehrer is a Contributing Editor at Wired and the author of How We Decide and Proust Was a Neuroscientist. He graduated from Columbia University and studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He has written for The New Yorker, Nature, Seed, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe. He's also a Contributing Editor at Scientific American Mind and National Public Radio's “RadioLab.”
